The number of dryland acres in western has ranged from 10,000 in 1995 (prior to the 1996 Bill), to a high of about 96,000 acres in 2000, the beginning of the eight-year drought. By 2005, dryland acreage had fallen to just 22,000 acres, but is now increasing and was at 93,000 acres in 2011.
